Suggest Remedy To Reduce High BP

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2015
Question: I have a very high blood pressure. ( 177/87 ) which I don't usually have. I went to my doctor and aside from the Atenolol which is 20 mg, she prescribed Hydrochlorothiaside 25 mg. I started taking it yesterday because I did my blood laboratory first to find out how is my sodium and it is 43 ( previous is 40 in XXXXXXX 2015 ). Do you think this is enough. I just took my BP and it is still 150/78. Do you think she should increase my Atenolol ? I am not used to this high BP. I am 77 years old and I always had good BP. the past years. Is it because of the increase in my Sodium ? What are the other causes of having a high BP ? Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Following answer to your query.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

First of all your doctor should increase the dose of atenolol to 100 mg per day and add amlodipine in your therapy to stabilise your BP and to keep it belo 140/90 mmHg.

Secondly there are many causes contributing to your hypertension including:
- increased sodium intake
- renal problems including phunctional renal failure of the elderly patients.
- atherosclerosis of arteries

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
