Suggest Tests To Diagnose Inclusion Cysts In Middle Finger

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I have a swelling (hardened mass) at the base if my middle finger wrapping from one side over to the palm area. I do have normal feeling in my finger, no pain. When I use my hand gardening, pulling weeds it swells up considerably but then when I give it a rest it subsides but never goes away. My orthopedic surgeon diagnosed just by looking at it and feeling it that is not qanglia but inclusion cysts and must be surgically removed. Are there any other tests to prove what it is. I would prefer not to go under knife. What is the inclusion cyst ?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is the best option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Epidermoid inclusion cysts are squamous epithelial lined benign cysts within the
skin, These are benign cysts which become painful if they are inflamed.
Surgical excision is the best treatment and it can be done as a day care surgery under a local anaesthesia. Excision biopsy is the only way to confirm the diagnosis.
For diagnosis you can also get an MRI scan done to see the extent of the cyst.
I hope this answers your query.
