I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the presence of deep vein thrombosis is confirmed by Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels.

A more sensitive test would be an angio CT scan of the lower limb vessels in order to detect for possible blood clots.

Further blood lab tests are also needed to investigate for the possible underlying causes:

-complete blood count
- inflammation tests (PCR, sedimentation rate)
- coagulation tests
- kidney and liver function tests
- Protein C and S levels
- antithrombine III
- factor V leyden
- antiphospholipid antibodies
- homocystein levels.

The primary objectives for the treatment of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) are to prevent pulmonary embolism, and prevent or minimize the risk of developing the postthrombotic syndrome.

The mainstay treatment is anticoagulation:

- Heparin, which is usually administered with continuous intravenous perfusion
- low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) which are administered twice daily subcutaneously
- vitamin K antagonists (warfarin), oral intake
- new oral anticoagulants (rivaroxaban, apixaban, etc.), oral intake
- mechanical thrombolysis (which is more invasive) and is performed into the affected vein.

These treatments not only help dissolve the blood clots, but also prevent other blood clots from forming.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

If you have any other uncertainties, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
