Posted on Mon, 27 Feb 2017
Question: Yes
I was recently diagnosed with H-Pylori. I am allergic to neomycin and Bactracin. The doctor and the pharmacy have told me that Clarithromycin is in a different family and safe for me to take. I have had very serious allergy reactions to Clindamycin in the past and am afraid to try this medication because it ends in mycin.

Brief Answer:
Its a macrolide!

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic

Clindamycin is a licosamide group of antibiotic while clarythromycin is a macrolide. Both of them are totally different.

But as you have history of allergies to many drugs, i would suggest you to take the first dose of medicine in a emergency set up, so that in case reaction occurs it can be controlled easily by antihistaminic and hydrocortisone and other supportive measures.

Additionally, allergic test can also be done before taking the medicine.

Feel free to ask in case of any further queries.
Thanks!
