Suggest Treatment For H. Pylori
Presence of H.pylori ab do not distinguish previous or current infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
H.pylori antibody test is used for diagnosis or evaluation of effectiveness of the treatment. It simply detects antibodies against the bacteria and do not distinguish between the the previous infection from current infection.
If the test is negative then it is unlikely that a person has h.pylori infection. If positive it should be confirmed with other test like stool antigen or urea breathe test or gastric biopsy.
If any of the above test also comes positive then treatment (antibiotic) for H.pylori erradication is to be given
So for confirmation whether there is H.pylori infection or not any of the above test should be done. Stool antigen and urea breathe test are non invasive but gastric biopsy is invasive test and require endoscopy to get tissue
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
