Suggest Treatment For Hollenhorst Plaque

default
Posted on Wed, 31 May 2017
Question: Can a Hollenhorst plaque and/or narrow retinal blood vessels be treated? I had brief loss of vision in my right eye. Afterwards, an ophthalmologist told me that I had the plaque and narrow blood vessels. I had a carotid ultrasound and transesophogael ultrasound and they came back normal. My blood and urine tests are all normal. I am not diabetic, my blood pressure is OK, I exercise every day. I am of normal weight. I am a 63 year old male.

On the right medication

Detailed Answer:
Hello ! Thank you for asking HealthCareMagic .
I have gone through your question and i understand.

You are in the right treatment.

The treatment against Hollenhorst plaque is against the cause , emboli ( material that accumulate in the blood vessels and cause the blockage) .Aspirin is a good medication and the one that we recommend to use in your case.
Aspirin prevents the blood clot ( emboli) from blocking the retinal blood vessels and in result prevent further damages of the retina.
Keep using Aspirin, flax oil pill, follow a low cholesterol diet and do regular follow ups by your local doctor .

Hope you find this helful.
Let me know if you have any further clarifications, i will be bappy to help.
Take Care !

Dear Dr Balliu,

Thank you for your prompt and informative response. I have a follow up question. Is it possible for the Hollenhorst plaque to disappear or grow smaller over time? Or is it something that will be in my retina the remainder of my life?

Sincerely, XXXXXXX
