Question: Sir i have semisolid stools 1 or 2 times a day for 2 years .doctors say it is ibs and recommend librax tablet which gives temporary relief. I have noticed that the stool color is pale yellow and greasy all the time could it be fat malabsorbtion or its ibs. Even if the stool is formed the color is same pale yellow. I do not have any stomach pain or other symptoms of ibs

Brief Answer:
IBS........not malabsorption

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank for your query.

Its typical IBS. Yellow stools indicate high fat in stools, but not malabsorption. Malabsorption will cause severe diarrhea, weight loss, bloating.
Drink plenty of water at least 4-5 litres /day. Try to avoid red meat, junk food, processed food, high fatty diets, carbonated drinks, alcohol.
Try yo take lot of fruits, salads, lentils.
I suspect internal hemorrhoids in your case. Consult a surgeon and get examined.
You can continue librax as prescribed by your doctor, But try to be on strict diet.
Get back to me if any query.
Regards,
Dr VSK

Would i have to take librax for lifetime, is it safe for long term. Also when i go for bowelmotion , I dont have to strain and the stool comes out easily mostly of semisolid consistency within few seconds but after that some amount of stool is always left in the rectum which do not comes out could it be due to rectal prolapse of some kind.
I also need to mention that after first Bowelmotion sometimes i have to go again after 10 or 20 minutes . Is it normal in case of ibs

Brief Answer:
continue librax for 5months

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for follow up.

You should continue tab librax at least for 5 months and then consult your doctor for further management. The symptoms you explained are typical features of IBS.
Frequent bowel motion is due to excessive peristalsis.

As I already described in my previous answer, I suspect internal hemorrhoids in your case. Consult a surgeon asap.

dr vsk
