Suggest Treatment For UTI Infection With Enterococcus Faecalis
I had a bad habit of excessive masturbation till few years ago but I overcame it and reduced it greatly. However, now I am facing another problem.
I have been diagnosed with urinary tract infection with Enterococcs faecalis with colony count 100,000+. I don't know how this is possible since I did not have sexual contact with any person ever. This infection was discovered only in urine culture. Complete urine examination and complete blood profile test came completely normal. My WBC in blood is 5000/cumm,pus cells in urine were 2-4/hpf, epithelial cells in urine is 1-2/hpf whereas RBC, crystals ,casts and others were not found in urine.
Is it possible that urine culture was somehow contaminated from elsewhere and that I should go for a retest of urine culture?
Suppose urine culture is correct then why are WBC count and urine examination report show completely normal? How could I have contracted this infection?
Is it completely curable? Are there chances of relapse? Are there things to avoid or consume for treating this?
Currently I have been prescribed Pantodac, nitrofurantoin and citralka.
Need to take appropriate antibiotic as per culture report .

Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your urine culture has revealed you to have UTI due to Enterococcus Faecalis organisms .
Enterococci are part of the normal intestinal flora of human and from there they can spread and cause UTI.
It is not necessary that the infection due to Enterococci will be relected and detected in routine urine analysis and WBC count ,
This is most notorious bacteria infection and the bacteria are resistant to almost all commonly used antibiotics being used to treat UTI .
Taking combination of antibiotics like Ampicillin and Amynoglycosides (Gentamycin) taken for 4-6 weeks do help to eradicate infection .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

1. I didn't have any sexual contact. Still somehow I got it on my own. What are the possible / most common reason for the bacteria spread to from intestine to urinary tract? Based on this answer I will take precautions to avoid some activities / food
2. Currently I have been prescribed Pantodac, nitrofurantoin and citralka for 5 days only. Are these a good combination? Is 5 days enough because doctor didn't even say to come back after 5 days?
3. Can this happen again?
4. How can I be sure that I am cured? Currently, I do not have burns while urinating or pain etc. Only reason doctor asked for urine culture is because I mentioned that I felt some discharge happened sometime.

hello
Thanks for follow up here are the answers to your queries point to point
1) Infection from intestinal flora spreads to urinary tract via urethra due to its close proximity to anus .
2) Since these organisms are resistant to almost all commonly used antibiotics Nitrofurantoin alone will not help to eradicate infection .
3) Pantodac is a H2 receptor antagonist it is prescribed to avoid getting gastritis from Nitrofurantoin
4) Repeat urine culture after you finish the course of suggested antibiotics for 6 weeks .
Thanks and Regards.

1. Can this infection happen again ?
2. My medication is for 5 days and not 6 weeks as suggested by you. Should I go to doctor to give me additional medicine after 5 days even if he hasn't asked me to come.
3. Since everybody has urethra in proximity to anus, is this bacteria a common occurrence in UTI? I heard E-coli is common but enterococcus is rare. Hence I wanted to know if there is any cause that may trigger this bacteria to spread.
You mentioned that nitrofurantoin is not sufficient alone. Should I go to my doctor to prescribe more antibiotics for me?
Additional Question -
4. Can this spread to prostrate or to semen? To lungs, heart or kidney?
5. If someone uses same toilet as me or if some one sits / sleeps on my bed, is it possible that that person get infected?
Thanks for your answers once again.

Final question -
What are the side effects if I take nitrofurantoin, citralka and pantodac for 5 days as prescribed by my doctor and if I actually do not have UTI?
The reason I am asking this is that I suspect my urine sample got contaminated from external sources. I dont have burning sensation while urinating. I also dont have continuous back pains and my WBC count and urine analysis is normal.
Please advise.
There are no major side effects of these drugs
