Suggest Treatment For A Blotchy Red Rash On The Leg
Question: I have recently developed irregular shaped, blotchy red rash on my right leg...started as one 1x2 inch reddened area lasting about 2 weeks, then spread into several blotches (6-7) of unconnected reddened areas on front lower leg, now it is starting to occur on my left leg. The rash does not itch, or have any drainage, it is not raised, doesn't burn...it's just there. I am male, 54 years old. weight 195, height 5'11".
Also- may be unrelated but is more concerning to me- I've had what I can only describe as "burning" on the balls of my foot!! And very stiff and painful joints in my toes. I have had this problem before this rash has appeared (no rash appearing on the foot as yet). The rash is more obvious and thus more concerning to my wife. If helpful I could send a picture of the rash? Any help would be appreciated

Brief Answer:
You are having pigmented purpuric dermatoses
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs and you are having pigmented purpuric dermatoses.
It is usually idiopathic though gravity and increased venous pressure due to varicose veins and exercise may act as provoking factors.
Even diabetes, thyroid disease, liver disease, obesity, certain drugs, clothing dyes, infections, lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid disease have been reported in association with pigmented purpuric dermatoses.
You need to exclude all the above mentioned causes.
It doesn't require active intervention in most of the cases.
Emmolients can be used.
