Constant Pain In Finger Joints, Hips, Lower Back. Had Lower Back Surgeries. Arthritis?

I have constant pain in finger joints, hips, lower back, groin, legs. Have had 2 previous lower back surgeries, but now I think a lot of this pain is from arthritis. I need to see a really good specialist in the Greensboro, Burlington area to evaluate to see if there is a medication which could help some of this pain, and possibly not have to have the surgery.
I can barely walk a block or less, and until 4-6 mos. ago could walk a mile or two a day. Cannot sleep well at night due to pain in legs and hips. I am afraid of some of the meds that are used for arthritis, so what does one do?

Hi. Arthritis means joint pain assoicated with swelling, while arthralgia means just joint pain (not associated with swelling).This is an important distinction, since arthritis and arthralgias connote different conditions. While arthritis if present in as many joints as described by you, could be rheumatoid arthritis or any other rheumatic disease, viral infections can also present with similar picture. Arthralgias are more non-specific and can occur in viral infections, hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia and other conditions to name a few. I would suggest that you visit a Rheumatologist who can examine you and get a picture of what you really have and your functional status, based on which further course of action can be taken.
