Suggest Treatment For A Problem In Hearing Words
Question: Hi there, yesterday (12-15 hours ago) I decided to go shoot a gun! Fun fun! Buut, very idioticaly I wasn't wearing any ear protection. I shot about 30 rounds at a decent rate. Needless to say, my hearing was dead after words for the rest of the day. Today (12:00) my hearing does seem to have gotten a little bit better not too much though, everything is just muffled and kind of annoying (in both ears). There is no pain or discomfort, just feels strange. I am giving it a little more time to recover before I seek medical help. I was told by many people that it should get better within 2 to 3 days depending on how sensitive my ears are. But anyways, i came across this site and decided to give it a shot and hear from a proffesional. Thank You for the time to read this. XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
PTA x 3 days.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank you for your query.
1. It will be better to get a Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) done after an ear examination as this will give an indication if you have a Temporary Threshold Shift in your hearing levels. A TTS should recover in 48 to 72 hours.
2. Given your history, there is a possibility of a Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) which occurs in the higher frequencies. This is usually above the speech frequencies and since you have a problem hearing words you should test daily for the next three days.
3. Upload the daily PTA graphs for further advice.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
