Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea

I have had several abdominal surgeries for multiple problems. Each time the adhesions are more difficult for the surgeon to deal with. Over the years I have increasing difficulty with abdominal pain and diarrhea which controls my life and activities. I have kept diaries about what I eat and how many stools a day. What I eat doesn't seem to have anything to do with the problem, On a good day, I may have 10 watery stools and on a bad up to 16-20 a day. Doctors don't seem to be very concerned.
Question is, could the adhesions be causing all these issues?
Adhesions can cause pain. not diarrhea
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Abdominal pain could be related to adhesions.
2. Diarrhea is not related to it. If adhesions were affecting, it would most commonly cause obstruction and cause constipation.
3. Diarrhea is mostly due to possible malabsorption or increased intestinal hypermotility. Malabsorption could be due to reduced intestinal absorption secondary to reduced length of intestine secondary to multiple surgeries.
4. As your health is not being affected much, your doctor is not concerned. Adequate hydration is very important, as dehydration is the biggest risk of diarrhea.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
