Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Continue the medication as prescribed by your Pediatrician.
Give frequent breast feeding, and you can give sips of oral rehydrating solutions after each loose stool and in between the stools in equal amounts to the losses.
Oral prebiotic and zinc can be added to treatment in prescribed dose.
Monitor her hydration by her activity, urine output, skin turgor.
Loose motions will take some time to decrease.
If the have any dehydration or loose motions are not controlled after completion of medication ,consult your Pediatrician for reassessment.
Hope i have answered your query.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Your niece is having acute gastroenteritis which is mostly viral in nature and takes few days to settle.
Most important is to maintain proper hydration,so give breast feeding more frequently.
give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each loose stools
continue with zinc for 14 days, add lactobacillus sachet for 2 to 3 days.
Observe for any features of dehydration like lethargy, decreased urination, refusal of feeds and in case you find any get her evaluated by pediatrician for proper management.

Wishing your niece good health.
God bless.

Geriatrics Specialist Dr. Surendiran Gaj's  Response
hi there
am dr.surendiran
nice to meet you in healthcare magic
Increased fluids and dietary changes are the main treatment for diarrhea. One loose stool can mean nothing. Don't start dietary changes until your child has had several loose stools.
If your breast-fed baby has diarrhea, treatment is straightforward. Continue breast-feeding but at more frequent intervals. Don't stop breast-feeding your baby because your baby has diarrhea. For severe (watery and frequent) diarrhea, offer Pedialyte or other electrolyte solutions between breast-feedings for 6 to 24 hours, but only if your baby is urinating less frequently than normal.
Remember that something in the mother's diet may cause a breast-fed baby to have more frequent or looser stools--for example, coffee, cola, or herbal teas. If you suspect this, take it out of your diet and see what happens.
some alarming signs to take to an pediatrician
There are signs of dehydration (no urine in more than 8 hours, very dry mouth, no tears).
Any blood appears in the diarrhea.
The diarrhea is severe (more than 8 stools in the last 8 hours).
The diarrhea is watery AND your child vomits repeatedly.
Your child starts acting very sick.
dont worry your child get well soon
