Suggest Treatment For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding And Severe Asthma

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: hello ... I am a 60 year old female with diabetis and a myriad of other chronic health conditions. I am morbidly obese abd have been preparing for over a year to undergo gastric bypass surgery (roux en y). durine the past year, several additional health concerns have surfaced which keeps postponing the surgery ... abnormal uterine bleeding and a cancer scare which resulted in a hemoglobin of 8 and an eventual uterine artery embolization to stop the bleeding; a severe asthma episode with bronchitis that necessitated the use of prednisone and most recently non healing venous ulcers which tested positive for MRSA. after more than 6 weeks of weekly debriedment and pressure wraps along with antiobiotic therapy (bactrim) and saphenous vein ablation in both legs, the ulcers are healed and just 2 days ago I received clearance from both my surgeon and the anesthesia pre-op clinic for the surgery to proceed next week, October 20th. however, much to my dismay, a routine urinalysis performed during the pre op testing has revealed what appears to be a kidney infection (I will attach lab results). we are still waiting for the culture and sensitivity reports. do you think this latest infection will cause the surgery to be postponed yet again and what can I expect in the way of treatment?could this possibly be the MRSA infection resurfacing? will this ibfection require inpatiebt treatment? I have had multiple bladder infections in the past 3 years but never a kidney infection. I have severe overactive bladder with urgency, frequency and painful bladder spasms which I believe have masked the symptoms of the kidney infection so I don't know how long I may have had this problem. please respond and help me understand what I may be facing for treatment. obviously, I hope my surgery won't be postpond again but I am preparing myself for that possibility.

Brief Answer:
Kidney infection should not be cause to postpone surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Thanks for query .I feel very sorry for the multiple health issues you are going through.

You are almost planned for gastric bypass surgery however your routine urine test has detected kidney infection which you fear may lead to cause to postpone surgery again .

Since you have already given urine samples for culture taking appropriate antibiotic as per culture report before surgery will eradicate kidney infection within 5 days .Hence I do not think that this should be the reason to postpone surgery .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
