Suggest Treatment For Absent Mindedness And Depression

Kindly describe her problems so that we can help her more effectively.
Detailed Answer:
Hi!
I can understand your concerns. You mention that your wife has become "depressed" as you put it. You feel that she is going "mad". Therefore you may have a worried mind that you might have to take her to a "psychotic" doctor, as you mean to say a psychiatrist.
You also have requested "anti-depression" medicines.
I am confident that your wife is in the early stage of a health issue.
It is most important to "catch" a person in the early stage, that is, as we say,
the acute stages of the illness.
Then recovery to mental health, balance, productivity and return to life is possible
without intervention with psychiatric drugs and treatments like ECT. Which, unfortunately, are rather over prescribed by psychiatrists and doctors. These have
effects that may "wipe out the black slate of depression clean", but with the elimination of the bad, we will find an removal of good qualities of the person.
We want your wife to be restored to the horizon of health in a natural manner.
I hope you would agree with me that psychiatric interventions cost huge amounts of time, money and energy and ultimately make the cure of the depression and disease more painful, for the patient and her family, than the depression that she was suffering in the first place.
Not to mention the stigma associated with being a psychiatric patient.
I would kindly request that you provide me with some information.
1. Do you feel that she says things that sound like convictions that are not true?
Does she have false beliefs? Beliefs that you have tried to convince her using
all evidence to the contrary, still she persists in holding them?
2. Do you feel that she ever hears voices or sees things or persons that are
not visible or audible to others?
Does she have a manner of interacting with herself that you might find strange?
3. Has any stressful incident occurred in her life? Is she tense, pressured about
some event or series of events that have occurred in her life?
4. Is she taking any medicines for any health problem? Please pardon me, I would
politely enquire if there is any intake of alcohol or and any other such
substances, past or present. Medicines and drugs can trigger off these
problems.
5. I would like you to inform me as regards her gynecological health as regards
pregnancies, past history of female health matters. Have there been any major
issues there? Female hormones control and direct the moods and the thoughts.
I would like you to think and answer these 5 important questions. Once we now,
in order of importance,
- presence/absence of features of psychosis.
- presence/absence of stressing factors.
- medication and drug history.
- gynecological history.
I would like a quick, brief response as regards these facts.
In confidence,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar

Detailed Answer:
Hi!
Your wife in all probability has developed an "emotional reaction" because of gynecological issues.
I have very carefully examined your answers. Thanks for bearing with the detailed questions.
The reason she is facing this situation can be due to other causes too.
Whatever the cause... we must be practical.
I would suggest olanzapine plus fluoxetine very low dose for 28 days. This will modify her emotions. 28 days is the behavioural cycle. A new behaviour if practiced for 28 days becomes automatic. Thus after this, you can stop these tablets. At very low dose, they are not addictive, nor do they cause serious side effects. Dosing is everything. These same drugs I have mentioned above, in moderate and high dose will have a totally different effect than at low doses.
If you do not wish to give tablets to her. You have many alternative choices.
I strongly suggest that she try writing a CBT notebook. CBT is cognitive behavioural therapy. These workbooks on how to handle stress, are widely available nowadays. There is no real need of a psychiatrist or doctor to implement
this very powerful psychological technique.
I would suggest that you purchase "CBT-DBT Out of Control" By Dr. XXXXXXX Brown Sheets. This is a very good workbook. Arguably one of the most readable books
written on CBT. Order the workbook. Give her a pen and a notebook and ask her to do the exercises. Indeed, they are very powerful because they work at the thought level.
I am very optimistic about your wife's recovery.
It can only get better as we see the positive side of things.
In my 11 years experience, if both of you adopt this attitude, 99% of the cure is effected.
Feel free to write back to us. For any doubts or clarifications. It is important that these instructions are understood well, if not kindly mention it.
