Hi,
Clozapine is used to treat severely ill patients with
schizophrenia who have used other medications that didn't work well. It is also used to lower risk of suicidal behavior in patients with schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder. Side effects of Clozapine are nausea, vomiting,
blurred vision, confusion,
dizziness, fainting, headache, fever, sleepiness,
constipation, unusual tiredness, irregular heartbeat or pulse, usual weight gain, menstrual abnormalities etc.
Obesity may cause menstrual abnormalities. Weight reduction may help to regularize menstrual cycles. Taking regular healthy balanced diet and exercising daily may prevent weight gain. This medication shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Before stopping or in case of any side effects, consult with the prescribing doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General & Family Physician
