Suggest Treatment For Acetobacter Infection After A Sleeve Gastrectomy
Question: Hi i had a sleeve Gastorectomy in dec 2013 one week after the operation i had a leakage issue wich required a second operation to clean the abdomen area and i was a fistula with a penrose drain from the stomach through the skin and out of the body then the drain cought a bacteria acetobacter and since then i had three times infections which required surgical intervention and the most recent one i had was five days ago, it is very frustrating to say the least and i have spoken to three docotors and said there's no cure for this bacteria and that is very alarming, which means that i might have these infections over and over again and go into surgery for the rest of my life and it is very painful and very draining physically and emotionally, please help me. Thank you

Acetobacter infection per se is very very rare.
I would like to know the following:
Whether the specimen of the fistula be sent for knowing whether this is tuberculosis or atypical tuberculosis/ for GeneExpert for TB as this is more common cause of recurrent fistula formation post surgery.
Please talk to your Doctors about this and get the tests done.
This may help you to get a diagnosis and a proper curative treatment.

One of the other reasons for persistent or recurrent tracts is the lining of the tract being covered by the internal mucosa thereby becomes secretory in nature and hence not amenable unless it is fully excised, eliminating all the mucosal component.
Additional reasons can be low hemoglobin, serum albumin, low immunity due to some reasons, deficiency of multivitamins and mineral- so important for healing. This factor is very important as you have undergone sleeve gastrectomy.
I hope these additional factors too need identification, investigations and corrections for proper healing.

Hello doctor, thank you for your prompt reply. I actually had a comprehensive blood test and it only showed defficuency in Vitamin D. More into my current situation my docotor has prescribed me the following treatment after my recent surgery: Voltic (Diclofenac Sodium - 50mg) 3X/day and Septrin D.S (Trimethoprim BP 160mg / Sulphamethoxazole BP 80mg) 2X/day these medicines were prescribed before the bacteria swab results. Thank you
