Suggest Treatment For Acne Scars On Face

Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,

How can I get rid of my acne scars (ice pick scars) on my face?

I had acne problems when I was a teenager, now I don't have that problems but my face is left with ice pick scars (attached scar pictures to my profile). Is there any treatment for this like creams or chemical peels?

In case if I need a chemical peel, how many sessions do I need to undergo?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Chemical Reconstruction Of Surface Scaring is choice of T/t in Icepick scar

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have noted down your concern.

Ice-Pick scars can be improved significantly only with CROSS procedure i.e Chemical Reconstruction Of Surface Scarring. In this procedure 80% -100% Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied into the pit of scar with help of sharp end of a toothpick. Acid induces local chemical injury inside the scar which is subsequently followed by wound healing process. This wound healing process remodels existing Ice-pick scars into a cosmetically better looking scar i.e a shallower looking scar. A session once every 2 weeks may be performed for 3-4 sittings in total.
Ice-Pick type of acne scars are the most difficult ones to treat.
Chemical peels Or even Fractional Co 2 Laser alone is ineffective Or only minimally effective for Ice pick scaring. Though chemical peels Or even Laser can be combined with CROSS for better results.

Thank you for your reply doctor.

I live in States, considering the cost of medical treatment here, can TCA peel be done at home following the instructions carefully or do I need to consult a doctor and get it done under his supervision?
