Suggest Treatment For Acute Schizophrenia When Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder
I have a very peculiar problem at home. My elder sister aged 43 is married and has three kids. She has all the things one wants ,husband family parents home money etc. 19 years ago when she gave birth to her first child ...she had an attack of acute schizophrenia. The treatment of which went on till few months and then was stopped due to her and her in laws reluctance. She became allright as well.2 years later again she had an attack and treatment was started with lot of difficulty and then again stopped after she showed improvement. This kept happening over the years. Later 4 years ago she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in which she stopped eating talking and other chores.treatment was started she started showing considerable improvement but again stopped because she has always been unwilling to take medicines.doc adviced to take med for lifetime.but for the past one year her behaviour has become strange. She has started hating her husband and doesn't want to stay with him.doesn't take care of kids or even want to see them, has become so boastful and arrogant , even tries to speak in English with the servants,is full of hatred for her mother and sisters. Talks only about money and property . Doesn't talk to family members or if at all talks then become abusive and fights. But on the other hand behaves very nicely with outsiders, neighbour. Does her daily chores ,eats drinks sleeps ,wears make up . She has even gone to police to file a complaint against husband and parents. Sometimes smiles on her own. I don't understand is this a mental abnormality or what is it?if someone talks of medicines she becomes so aggressive saying she doesn't need it rather the other person need it ...Please help what is it
thanks
This is manifestation of bipolar disorder
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query with keen interest and understand your concerns.
Her current symptomatology is indicative of bipolar disorder. As the name suggests bipolar disorder have two phases which is known as depression and mania. Her current symptoms are pointing toward Manic phase of bipolar disorder.
As in the past she needs treatment and it is better if not delayed. People with mania talk about power, money, strength and show lot of energy and generally talk relentlessly. Just opposite happens in depressive phase of bipolar disorder.
If she is not wiling to take treatment (it seems to me too) than giving her treatment by force or with involvement of police is warranted.
'Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
