Question: I have aspirin-allergic asthma that is usually well controlled, but I have been having to use my rescue inhaler tonight. I had Lidocaine and steroid injections preceded by Versed late yesterday afternoon. I've had the Lidocaine and steroid before with no problems. Could the Versed have caused brought on asthma?

Brief Answer:
I do not think its Versed to cause asthma aggravation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

According to the history you are suffering from aspirin-allergic asthma and you have an aggravation of your conditions.

Versed (midazolam) is an sedative drug we usually do not prefer it in this situation and lidocaine too (because you have not mentioned if there is other reason you use them)

In reacutisation of asthma we do not recommend them.

We usually can use steroids injections or inhalers combined with bronchodilatators inhalers (but it depends on the situation of the patient)

However please discuss with your doctor for their use in continuity.

I do not think Versed have cause the situation ,because it is not directly related to lung function but in severe patient with breathing problems we avoid its use.

I strongly recommend you to consult your treating doctor for further follow up of your condition.

Take care and feel free to ask me again

Thank you for your quick reply. I should have said that the steroid/lidocaine injections preceded by Versed were for pain in my neck and not related to asthma treatment.

I will take my usual meds and use my nebulizing machine and will follow up with my lung doctor if I have any more violent attacks. I'm hoping that the steroid injections will have a secondary effect of helping with the asthma.

Again, thank you.

Brief Answer:
Steroids are the best choice

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I am pretty sure that the steroids injections will help you a lot together with nebulizing.

Do not worry you will feel better again soon

Take care

You are welcome
