Brief Answer:
Rogaine or Minoxidil lotion may help

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for contacting Healthcaremagic with your medical questions and concerns.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing alopecia. As you may already know that alopecia is usually a disease where the hair follicles in your skin die off leaving large patches of bare skin. Treatment has been focused on using a topical steroid to reduce the bodies defenses to stop the loss of hair follicles. This has limited effectiveness.

There is a chance with using rogaine or minoxidil lotion and shampoo products may also help regain hair growth. But if the patches have no hair follicles then the hair can't grow back.

Hope I answered your question. Please contact us again fro your medical questions and concerns

Well there is no hair at all in 4 patches and I am guessing that the hair may not grow back at all. Is hair transplant in the future an option?

Brief Answer:
Transplants can be successful

Detailed Answer:
In order for a hair transplant to be successful for alopecia, the disease needs to be inactive and there must be adequate donor hair. I have heard of good results putting hair into area of alopecia long as the primary disease is stable.

Hope that answers your question

That sounds positive nonetheless I will try your suggested remedies first for the next couple of months and then plan accordingly. Thank you for your advice

Brief Answer:
Active areas

Detailed Answer:
What I mean is that the areas must not be actively losing hair. If the hair patches are stable without losing hair then they can receive transplants. Your alopecia should stabilize at some time and that is the time to consider transplants. Medications like minoxidil or rogaine may still help on those areas that continue to have hair follicles

Good luck
