Brief Answer:
ALS new treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX xxxxxxxxxxx, thanks for asking from HealthcareMagic.

I can understand your concern. ALS is a neuromuscular disease which involves both upper and lower motor neuron. It is initially treated with physiotherapy. Recently new medications have been approved after various clinical trials. I will mention their names along with the trial name.

- Edaravone has been approved for use in ALS in Japan (2015). The efficacy of edaravone for the treatment of ALS was demonstrated in a six-month clinical trial conducted in Japan. In the trial, 137 participants were randomized to receive edaravone or placebo. At Week 24, individuals receiving edaravone declined less on a clinical assessment of daily functioning compared to those receiving a placebo.

- Stem cell and gene therapy test - FDA has approved its clinical use in patients. Currently, the trial is going on. Persons with ALS seeking information about participation in the clinical trial may find out more by calling (000) 000-0000.

- You can also ask to join various trials which are currently going on. I am mentioning the link - https://www.yyy.yyy/yyy-yyyyyyyyyyyyy/yy-yyyyyyyy-yyyy/. In 2017, 8 trials are recruiting the patients.

- Riluzole was the first drug which is in use since 1995.

- As per EFNS (March 2012) guidelines, currently, there is insufficient evidence to recommend treatment with vitamins, testosterone, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q-10 and gingko biloba, intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, cyclosporine, interferons, Copaxone, KDI tripeptide, neurotrophic factors (including brain-derived neurotrophic factor [BDNF], insulin-like growth factor-1 [IGF-1], and mecasermin rinfabate), ceftriaxone, creatine, gabapentin, minocycline, stem cells, or lithium (GCPP). But these medications are prescribed by various practitioners.

This is the recent development in ALS treatment.

Hope my answer will help you.
If you have any doubt, do let me know.

Thanks. Take care.
