Suggest Treatment For Ankle Arthritis

Question: Is there a medication to lower blood pressure other than Losartan TCTZ. I believe Losartan is causing build up of gas in my stomach. The GI doctor thinks that the valve between the large intestine and small intestine is leaking thereby causing the development of gas. Belching is the real problem. Needs to sit up at night to get rid of gas by belching. Have tried numerous medications without any success. Can gabapentin cause the valve between the large intestine and small intestine to be too relaxed causing the leakage? Gabapentin is being taken to control fantom pain in an eye which was removed. Instead of taking additional medications to control the gas belching problem can it be possible to remove either gabapentin or the blood pressure med. Should I try a different blood pressure med. What can I do to reduce high blood pressure. Exercise is one, is there a herb or food to reduce high blood pressure? Am I too long winded?
Exercising is difficult for me because of arthritis in my ankle. I have had both knees replaced because of worn cartilage. Replacement was only partial knee. I am afraid to exercise like walking on a tread mill because of fear of damaging knees and my ankle which has pain. I have tried a stationary cycle, but it creates some ankle pain. Is swimming the only exercise to save my joints? Swimming is not readily available. Any suggestions? I need to lose weight. I gained weight when I started Gabapentin 600 mg every 4 hours about 10 yrs ago? Is Gabapentin the safest pain control med for my phantom eye pain? What a mess I am in. Any suggestions in getting off of Gabapentin so I can loose weight.

Thanks, Helen

Brief Answer:
Don't worry, you will be fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
First i would like to say that, don't worry, you will be fine soon.
Most of the medicines have side effect of gastritis. So you have to follow some additional steps to prevent it, which I'll discuss one by one.
Losartan is a very good medicine & has less side effects, I'll recommend to continue it.
Gabapentin can be reduced to twice or thrice per day if the pain is not very much.
Coming to steps
1) If you can't exercise much, try Yoga. It is very effective & can be done easily. It will also burn the extra calories & help to reduce weight & lower the bp.
2) Decrease salt in diet to minimum, it will also help decreasing the bp.
3) Never take your medicine empty stomach, it will increase gastritis. So take them after taking some light food.
4) Drink lot of water, it will also prevent gastritis.
5) Take plenty of fibre rich diet
6) I'll also recommend you only 2 medicines, just try it for a week & i am sure you will be absolutely fine.
For such patients we give Tab Pantoprazole 40mg twice daily (it has to be taken empty stomach) & Tab Lesuride(Levosulpiride) 25mg thrice daily.
These will improve your abdominal symptoms & you will be fine very soon.
Come back if you need any more help.
Thanks
Take care
