Suggest Treatment For Ankle Fracture

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Oct 2014
Question: I fractured my ankle approximately 3 years ago. It would swell occasionally after it was repaired by wearing a boot for 7 weeks, but recently it's begun to hurt. If I stand a lot during the day, which I do because of my work, it swells at night. After resting it during the night, when I wake up it is not swollen any longer, but when I get up, until I'm walking around for awhile (about 2/5 minutes) it hurts. I am thinking of calling the Orthopedic doctor on Monday, but am wondering what it could be. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
It can be carilage damage in the ankle

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you might be having cartilage damage in the knee. Cartilage is surface of the bone which make joint friction free. In case of injury like fracture this cartilage get damage and causes chronic pain and swelling.
I would suggest you to get MRI of the ankle joint. It will tell us if there is any cartilage or ligament damage is present.
If there is cartilage injury then you will need arthroscopic debridement of ankle joint.
If ligament is damage then you can get ligament reconstruction.
you can share your MRI report with me. Let me know if there is any followup questions.
thanks.
