Bleeding In Spit Followed By Difficulty In Breathing, Swallowing And Speaking Post A Bang On The Throat. Is It Serious?
A friend took a shoulder to the throat during a rugby game. He said it was spittingout a sma;; amount of blood for about 20 minutes, but kept on playing. He is not having difficulty breathing but is finding it difficult to swallow . He is also having a hard time talking and sounds like he has a severe case of laryngitis(sp?). How concerned should he be?
Spitting out blood and change of voice followed by throat injury indicate moderate to sever kind of laryngeal injury.
Voice change usually indicate vocal cord injury or edema followed by trauma.
Spitting out blood may indicate laryngeal soft tissue or cartilage injury.
I would suggest you to see an ENT specialist for a complete examination You can have voice endoscopy ,X ray -neck or CT Scan- neck to exclude any major laryngeal fractures or dislocation.
regards.
