Suggest Treatment For Ankle Pain Post Injury
Question: I have a sprain in my ankle which has been there for quite some time now. When walking I suddenly feel a jerk and it starts to pain, slowly the pain goes away.
Brief Answer:
Sounds like you need an X-ray
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX, thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic.
How did the sprain happen? How long has it been bothering you?
I would get an X-ray of the ankle first to rule out a hairline fracture. After that, an angle splint can be bought at the store. It should take the weight off your ankle a bit. OTC pain killers like Ibuprofen will help with the pain until the x-ray is done and we see what is going on.
If there is no fracture, then we will need to see about getting you some physical therapy. If that doesn't help, we can look to getting an MRI. That's just a preliminary plan, any details you can give me will help in refining it.
I hope this helps,
Vinay
