First of all how you come to know that your amygdala is in anxious mode? Normally in anxiety amygdala, prefrontal cortex and other brain areas also involved.
As you stated that it has given you some other disorders, please explain in detail regarding those disorders?
You can take medication for sleep but can you give details regarding sleep medication?
It is good to exercise, reading and writing regularly. Exercise particularly releases endorphin hormone which is known as happy hormone. Also with exercise your amygdala returns to non anxious state but it takes time approx 1 to 2 year. Meditation may also help.

Xanax for sleep. My amygdala problem was explained to me by Charles Linden who is an expert at anxiety disorders. Other disorders....restlessness but that is beginning to fade. I am more relaxed now. Prior to the panic attacks I had excellent mental and physical health and worked as a communications engineer. No drugs please I just want some tips on reversing the amygdala some reasonable things I can do. I am having a brain spect. done in a couple of weeks that should so any specific brain trauma, the CAT SCAN didn't show anything abnormal.

I Understand you do not want to take any medication but there are many medication which may help you, and these medication has no addictive property.
As you already take sleeping medication which has addictive property so i would suggest you to gradually quit it.
Other methods are there by which you can improve but it takes a time minimum of 3 to 6 month.
Restlessness is also a symptoms of anxiety.
Other method like psychotherapy particularly cognitive behavior therapy helps you a lot.
Continue your exercise , reading and writing.
There is no need to do brain spect as it has no effect on your treatment.

what ever QEEG finding may be identified in Brain spect but it has not much effect on your treatment aspect.
QEEG is not that much diagnostic.
That is the reason for not advising you for brain spect.

CBT is for anxiety not for sleep

Hi dear,
With CBT your anxiety is improved and once you are free from anxiety your sleep is also be good.
During that period you can take sleeping pills but gradually decrease the dose of sleeping pills.
Reverse the amygdala is the goal and once it is achieved with CBT you will get proper sleep.
