Suggest Treatment For Atrophic Vaginitis

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I went to the ER a couple of weeks ago with bleeding from my vagina. The doc said it might be vaginitis. I went to my own doc and he did a pap test and when he took the scope out there was lots of blood. Could this be something else? I've also had a fever for 6 days with highs of 39.5 c. I take Tylenol but it doesn't seem to work. Could these be related?

Brief Answer:
Could be atrophic vaginitis with super imposed infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
What you might be having is atrophic vaginitis with superimposed infection.
I assume you are menopausal, am I right ?
Post menopause, there is local deficiency of hormones ( estrogen ) in the vaginal tissues.
This leads to atrophy ( breakage ) of the tissue, making it very delicate and sensitive to infections and spotting / bleeding.
Did you consult an OB - GYN specialist ?
If not, please do so.
You need an internal exam ( atrophic vaginitis is easily diagnosed on internal exam ), a vaginal swab ( to rule out infection ) and a pelvic ultrasound scan to rule out any other cause of vaginal bleeding ( fibroids / thickening of the endometrium - lining of the uterus ).
All the best
