Suggest Treatment For Back Pain While Having Severe Cough
Question: At the end of April, I had a bad cough for two weeks. I was seeing a chiropractor because my back was sore and he suggested that my intercostal muscles had tightened irritating the nerves. He suggested using a foam roller to release the discomfort, however I didn't find that effective. On my last visit I mentioned that I was starting to feel panicky and he suggested stomach breathing. I actually think he might have done to much work and irritated my system. I continued to feel odd and have ended up having full blow panic all the time. Is there anyway the nerves could be playing a part in this? My back is pulling all the time unless I'm lucky enough to get to sleep. Can you give me any advice. I am desperate and don't know who to talk to. Thanks
Brief Answer:
Intercoastal muscle spasm
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Since you had cough for two week duration, its common to expect intercoastal muscle problems. The most common presentation amongst is spasm of the intercoastal muscles.
Yes, physiotherapy will help, but in addition a course of muscle relaxant medication would help better.
I do not believe that the nerves are involved here, as they lie deep inside a notch under the ribs far to be affected by muscles.
Do take a course of pain killer and muscle relaxant combination. This not only reduces the pain in the back but also gives sound sleep.
Wish you good health.
