Question : For about the last week I have a difficult time maintaing my balance. I feel as I am about to fall when on my feet. I am nauseated most of the time and no appetite, I was diagnosed as having a condition that started with Lab(something), back some years before and treated with Dimetapp and Ampicillin. Could this possibly be the same?

Hi XXXXXXX Labyrinthitis--inflammation of the hair cells of the cochlea of the inner ear--causes vertigo--either a feeling of spinning around or of loss of balance, or both.

It sounds like you were treated before for a middle ear infection that can also cause labyrinthitis.

That said, this could also be a sign of a transient ischemic attack or an actual stroke, so you need to see a doctor(preferably Neurologist) for a full workup without any further delay.
