Suggest Treatment For Blister On The Foot
Question: Hi, I have a large blister on the bottom of my foot that I treated with live aloe and I had an allergic reaction to the aloe. My leg swelled up all the way to my groin. Benedryl and lots of liquids has helped bring it down. I'm wondering why aloe would have caused such a reaction. Do you know?
Brief Answer:
infection is a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your question. More than a reaction to Aloe, I am concerned if there is infection which has caused the swelling. Do you have redness or fever ? When you used aloe, bacteria would have got in to the wound which would have caused infection. It is not advisable to apply any unsterile object to an open wound.
The other possibility is that , your skin could be sensitive to aloe. It is worth checking CBC to look for evidence of infection. If present, you may have to use antibiotics

Thank you for your response. Infection is what I was worried about as, yes, there has been some fever that is now gone. I'm leaving this open for follow-up questions if needed. I do not like to take antibiotics and had a lot of them as a child. I like alternative and, sometimes, ayurvedic medicine.
I do not have health insurance, so am going to wait to go to the doctor for now. If it persists, I will go.
Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
Please consider a CBC
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the reply. I respect your decision. If the swelling is reducing, then it is okay. However, strongly recommend to do a CBC and Blood glucose tests. If they are okay, not to worry much.

Hello,
The swelling is almost completely gone in the leg and ankle, but it is sore to the touch where the swelling used to be, especially in specific spots just around and above the ankle (which us where most swelling existed originally.) My instinct says this is not unusual. Is there any home remedy for the pain, e.g., massage or cold compresses?
Thank you, again.

Brief Answer:
Sensitive skin and tissues due to stretching
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Do not massage. The skin has stretched from swelling and massaging may cause the friable and stretched skin to break down. Skin and tissues remains sensitive due to sretching for tthe next few days. They were infammed too. This will cause tenderness. Gentle cold compress may be helful.
If you have excluded infection, then not to worry. These problems will settle over the next few days. However, if there is redness, recurrence of swelling or worsening pain, please seek medical help .
