Child Has Swollen Lip After Injury. Taken Bendaryl. Now Has Swollen Wrists, Eyes, Itchy Rash Under Ribcage
My 14 yr old daughter was at church camp for a week at the end of July. When she came home, she said that a day after being in the forest where a branch snapped into her face, her lips began to swell and stayed like it for 2 days. Well, when I picked her up, she looked fine. The same night we went on vacation to Padre Island. A night or two into our vacation I saw her swollen lip. We got her Benedryl and she slept all day. The lip was better that night, but after a nights sleep it came back. Then her wrists began to swell once. Back at home now, and last night one of her eyes was swollen and she had an itchy rash beneath her left ripcage. We saw 2 doctors and they're clueless. They gave us more Benedryl and Claritin.
It is very difficult to give you any suggestion without a detailed clinical history and examination of your daughter. Some queries that need to be answered are: 1. How long does the swelling of the lips last? How does is reduce? 2. Are the movements in both the wrist joints restricted and painful? 3. Is there swelling of other joints present too? 4. Is the conjunctiva of the swollen eye congested? 5. Was your daughter remember being bitten by insects during the camp? Are there any visible marks of insect bites? It is quite likely a reaction to something which your daughter has come in contact during her camp and needs to be investigated.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
