Question: Hi,

I suffered from blocked nose almost every morning when i wake up. During times when I have cough, i experienced asthma attack and breathless in the night when my cough was bad. Why do I experienced asthma attack when I had never suffered from asthma before?

My wife told me that I snore very loud at night. Is this related to my nasal condition as well? Do surgery help? I have a friend who had the sinus surgery done but it does not seems to help in his condition, his condition reoccur 1 year after he had the surgery.

Pleaes advise what should i do to improve my condition?

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
need to undergo sleep study

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

Asthma can start at any age even in people with no past history of asthma. But I do hope the diagnosis of asthma was made by a doctor.

Snoring occurs due to a block in the upper respiratory tract. Block can be in the nose or the throat or both. Most of the times snoring is harmless and does not cause any side effect but other times it can produce serious health risks. You will have to visit an ENT specialist to know the level of block in your respiratory tract. You may also require to undergo a sleep study. In this study vital parameters like heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, breathing rate, apnoeic episodes and other parameters are monitored while you sleep. By analyzing the parameters we will come to know if the snoring is adversely affecting your health and whether it needs to be corrected by medical and surgical methods. speak to your ENT doctor about sleep study. It is usually done in a sleep lab but can be done at home as well.
