Suggest Treatment For Blood Blister On Vagina

Question: I had what looked like a blood blister on my inner labia which was blue and red in color, hard and about the shape of a pea. I just went to the gynecologist two days ago because of a stuck tampon that he removed after a few hours (had sex and forgot a tampon was in). I noticed the blister yesterday after some pain while wiping. I took a hot bath early and rested and when I awoke I found it had popped and was filled with minor blood. What causes this and how can I treat from here.

Brief Answer:
You probably had a small blood blister or burst capillary

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

If there is bleeding under the skin from a burst capillary, it forms a small lump like what you described and will eventually rupture and bleed. Once the blood comes out, the area will heal like a scab and not come back.

Capillaries can burst on your skin in any area that is traumatized. You likely irritated the skin either from trying to remove the tampon or from the string rubbing the area during sex.

Another possibility is that you had a small mole called a capillary hemangioma, which looks purple and can burst the same way.

Either way, the blister should not come back for any reason. If the area is still not healed, keep it clean and dry and try to not wear underwear that will irritate the area.

I hope I was adequately able to answer your question today and that this information was reassuring. If you need anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
