Suggest Treatment For Blood Clots During Periods

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: 45 years old and have always been very irregular with my periods. This past year I have had them almost every month. Right now this is the second period I have had within a month and though there is not much bleeding, there are large blood clots. I have to change my pad every 1 to 2 hours. There is no pain at all but this has gone on for 5 days now.

Brief Answer:
Need progesterone supplements.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The irregular and heavy bleeding with clots that you are having can be due to uterine fibroids, polyps or hormonal disturbances commonly seen in perimenopausal age group. For diagnosis, you need to have an ultrasound scan of your lower abdomen.
To decrease the bleeding you need to have progesteone pills along with hemostatic agents like ethamsylate or tranexaemic acid after consulting with your gynaecologist.
Meanwhile start taking iron supplements to combat excessive blood loss from your body.
Checking serum FSH levels will give you an idea regarding time to menopause.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
