Brief Answer:
Please get your self re-assessed by your Psychiatr

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef, a general surgeon answering your query.

Well XXXX , under whatever conditions you had the desire of getting your little finger amputated, I would suggest you to review your decision. The fingers which one has are the gift of God to mankind. Each and every finger or so to say any body part of human was made for some particular function. This is why any general surgeon or a doctor in general would try to save the limb or finger or any part of our body, for which he was trained. And he was trained for removing a diseased dead part, and not a healthy part of the body. Leave aside the surgeon for what he was trained for. Consider your age (only thirty eight) and at this age you might have to complete a lot of responsibilities towards yourself and your family, and a loss of finger might delay or damage your chances of doing so. And what you are trying to contemplate would be an irreversible act and nothing could recover it later.

Therefore, I would advise you to get your condition reviewed again by your psychiatrist and I am sure he would also agree with what has been my ideas on your condition as noted above. Also I would add that you should go for a regular exercise programme depending on your medical fitness, like a morning walk or a jogging to keep your self fit.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.

Hello Doctor,
Thank you for your reply. I am fit and healthy and do go for regular morning walks. I am facing this problem since childhood. I feel this is an extra finger on my body and if removed I will feel complete and more confident in life. I sometimes don't feel this finger and seeing this finger on daily basis bothers me to great length. So I wish to go for amputation.

I am seriously looking for an amputation as I have always wanted it from my childhood. I have always felt 9 fingers in stead of 10 and this little finger does not belong to me at all. In fact I will be very happy if it is amputated and will become confident with a sense of completeness in life. I have been thinking about it or reviewed my desire from my childhood - and it hasn't changed a bit. And, now I am at that stage where, if no doctor would want to help me - I will have to do it myself. So, I request you to please help me with the amputation of my left little finger.

Brief Answer:
Talk to your friends and family for help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX ! Nice to listen from you so fast. This shows your concern for your own health. Based on this concern for your health , I would insist on my suggestion for you as above to review your decision and talk to your friends and family members about it. They would be very much helpful in such situations in life. I am sure you could revert your thought process with a little more discussion on this with your psychiatrist, friends and family members. It might not be possible for you to get a surgeon to do what you are contemplating as this would be quite unethical to remove a normal part from a human body. At the same time, understanding fully well your situation, I would rather plead you not to take any such action which could harm your body as a whole. You could consult another psychiatrist if need be for this.

Hoping a positive attitude from you towards your own self and also towards your family and friends. Dr Shareef.
