Suggest Treatment For Bulky Spleen
Question: I just got an ultrasound sound and my spleen is bulky 12.9 cm and borderline splenomegaly.
My WBC was 3.7 Platelets 125 - they have been like this for 2or 3 years. I am a vegetarian.
How worried should I be? Do you recommend a bone marrow biopsy?
Is my spleen considered enlarged?

Brief Answer:
You have moderate splenomegaly
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for using HCM.
Your spleen is moderately enlarged.
There are many different causes of splenomegaly.
Infections, portal hypertension, blood related disorders, disordered immune regulatory disorders are some of the common causes.
A liver function test, a peripheral blood smear study, a portal venous doppler scan and a bone marrow biopsy have to be done to find the cause.
I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
