Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: What could be the cause of a bump on the labia majora? It is a little tender, and looks bruised. When applying pressure, it bleeds bright red and somewhat watery blood. It has been there for over a week now. Appeared a few hours after shaving that area. What treatment should be given?

I understand your concern.

In my opinion as the bump appeared after the shaving mostly it might folliculitis ie.,hair follicle infection.Sebaceous gland infection can also be a possibility. But as per your history mostly it goes in favor of folliculitis.

Apply topical mupirocin ointment.Take paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain.Nothing to worry about that. Don't apply any pressure on the bump because on application of pressure it might spread to deeper tissues.

Stop using Witch XXXXXXX use ointment mupirocin

If the size still increase and on formation of pus you might need a course of antibiotics which are prescribed by the doctor after examination.

In order to prevent this kind of infection in future apply some antiseptic solution after shaving in the shaved area.

Hope this satisfies your query.
