Suggest Treatment For Burnt Scars On Face

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Question: Hi,

This question is for my mother who recently got her face burnt while cooking in the kitchen. This incidence happened around 10 days back.. We used the Silver X ointment to help her heal with the burn marks. Current situation is that her burns have been healed, however, the marks are still persisting and the face looks real bad.

Can i request you to please suggest a medicine that will completely remove these burn marks.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have also seen the photographs.

In the photograph I can see a dark coloured spot close to her left eye; another hyperpigmented spot below her lower lip. This is actually post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) which is common after a burn.

If I was the treating doctor, I would have asked her to use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream 0.05%, twice daily for PIH spots. This is a prescription drug and I would suggest that she visits a doctor-in-person for prescription, before trying it.

Sun protection is advisable for faster results. She may also use an OTC sunscreen, throughout the day, to lessen the effect of further sun induced darkening.

An Oral Vit C supplement would also hasten the results.
