Suggest Treatment For Cervical Facet Syndrome
I had ADR surgery awhile back, at the C-5 thru C-7 Level. I was
recently diagnosed with cervical facet Syndrome. I was offered a fusion to eliminate the Facet issues, However they want to do the fusion c-4 to c-7 This time and leave the Replacemnet discs intact. Can a fusion be done that way? Leaving the the replacment discs in the c- spine ?
Thanks for Reading - XXXXXXX
Yes it can be done with ADR plus fusion.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
Artificial disc replacement is a newer and advanced treatment for these issues. Disc fusion is old fashioned but effective way. Some ADR is not enough and pain is still there, then doctors go for fusion option. And yes it is fine keeping the disc intact and doing fusion over it. So no worries for that.
There are a wide variety of options available with spinal fusion, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Surgical techniques include fusion approached from the front, the back, or both. Spinal instrumentation in the form of intervertebral cages and/or pedicle screws provide internal structural support while the bone fuses, and bone graft can either be harvested from the patient or one of a number of synthetic bone graft substitutes or extenders can be used.
Irrespective of the type of fusion done, it has promising results. So do as directed by your doctors. You seem to be in safer hands.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
may the odds be ever in your favour.
