Suggest Treatment For Severe Soft Tissue Injury
Question: MVA-rear-end stopped at traffic light by negligent driver when light turned green. Resulted in severe soft tissue and tendon, muscle fibers injury.
Brief Answer:
The level of injury to the muscle fibres needs assessment.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through the details. I would need to know how much exactly and which tendon has been severed and the level of functionality preserved. In case of some tendon getting more than 2/3 severed, surgical interventions might be essential. Otherwise the mentioned treatments are likely to suffice. I would suggest you to get a surgical opinion without delay as negligence may lead to functional loss.

I HAVEN'T TO DATE HAD A SHOULDER ORTHO SURGEON, NECK & BACK SURGEON, 2 OR 3 PM & R MD, AND ORTHO SPORTS MEDICINE MD, SEVERAL CHIROPRACTORS OR SEVERAL PHYSICAL THERAPISTS INTODUCE A PARTIAL SEVERED TENDON. THE CLOSEST WS THE KINO CHIRO THAT STATED I MADE NEED TO RETRAIN MY NECK SHOULDER TENDON. PLEASE ADVISE HOW A MEDICAL OPINION CAN DETECT PARTIAL SEVERED TENDON? I HAVE A APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW ORTHO SURGEON FIRM APPOINTMENT 19TH OF AUGUST. I HAVE HAD TWO MRI'S SINCE MVA AND HAVE REQUESTED ULTRA SOUNDS, BUT NO ONE FEELS THAT IS NECESSARY. SHOULD I VISIT HOSPIT AL EMERGENCY ROOM AND USE YOU ANSWER TO REQUEST SOME SPECIAL TESTING TO DETECT PARTIALLY SEVERED TENDON PRIOR TO THIS APPOINTMENT 3 TO 4 WEEKS AWAY?
Brief Answer:
You need not visit the ER
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back.
The MRIs should give the exact status of the rupture of the tendon(s) and I do not think that ultrasound is not required. Although an orthopedics surgeon can correctly assess the status and plan the interventions, I would have rather preferred an appointment with a plastic surgeon instead. The domain of a plastic surgeon is more tuned to soft tissue injuries as in your case, in contrast to bony injuries handled by a orthopedician. Surely you would need to retrain your muscles thereafter.
I do not think that visiting the ER would be helpful. Be patient and wait for the appointment. If possible you may reschedule with a plastic surgeon instead.
