Question: I am seeking 2nd opinion here
I have chemical burns around my mouth and chin area, after using ( Just for mens) beard and mustache hair color, used exactly like the directions stated, within 8-12 hours now have heavy swelling, raised sores that are weeping fluid, heavy itch and burn, went to emergency room yesterday morning, doc looks at me all of 3 minutes, says he seen this before all will be will, and prescribes the following..( Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen 5-325) Qty-10 tabs & Prednisone-20mg twice per day, 5 day supply. My real concern is will my skin heal and clear from this condition ( without scaring>) its been 48 hours since meds and not any real difference! approximately how long before healing takes place? , should I keep it dry all day, or can I or SHOULD I use some Neosporin to help with the dry itch and burn? OR LET THE SORES DRAIN..WITHOUT COVERAGE? doc advised not to shave off the newly dyed hair, my mind keeps telling me there is absorption in the hair, possibility to folicals back into my skin...although I have shampooed it out a few times already, I can understand most doctors not liking to comment or second guess a colleague. what would you suggest. your skills and talents are much appreciated. Brief Answer:
Self resolution, no shave,hydrocortisone,No scar

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your concerns i believe the doctor is right. Whether the scar will remain of burn or not depends on the degree and severity of burn, your case is mild and only first degree at most with some inflammation and erythema and oozing fluid. So i am pretty sure the scar wont be an issue.

Instead of neosporin, try some topical hydrocortisone creams, they will help both the itch as well as inflammation.

Continue the medicines provided, they will help, give them some time, 48 hours is very less to show effects, it will be fine in a week or tops 10 days.

You should not shave but there is no harm in washing or wiping it with warm saline water , it will help prevention of secondary infection. Keeping it unwashed and unattended will complicate things, so yes wash it with normal saline.

Nut shell it will be fine without scar and doing as directed will help.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Regards
Khan
