Suggest Treatment For Chest Pain And Discomfort

Question: Hi Im 44yrs old 6' 145lb, very athletic, no risk factors. 10 years ago I had chest pain while sprinting. Nuclear stress test showed no problems. I currently have no chest discomfort when cycling to XXXXXXX heart rate or swimming. I do however experience the discomfort running. I had a stress test last week that was excellent. My cardiologist is understandably concerned about the symptoms and has scheduled me for a cardiac catheterization. Im concerned about the invasive nature of the XXXXXXX and would like to learn as much as possible from a cardiac MRI or other non invasive test before proceeding to the Catheterization. Could the MRI be definitive in this case?
Brief Answer:
Cardiac ct angiography should be done before angiography.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
Since you have only chest discomfort on effort with a normal stress test I advise to do cardiac ct angiography or MRI. This will show the presence of coronary plaques and obstruction.
If there will be something abnormal on cardiac ct angiography or cardiac MRI you should go for angiography (heart catherisation). Otherwise it's definitive and you should continue with follow up every year with cardiac echo and stress test.
Hope this was of help!
