Suggest Treatment For Chest Pain And Palpitations After Aortic Regurgitation
i have a bicuspid aortic valve. with severe regurgitation. Im 39 male.
i am waiting for an operation, i am due for a pre opp appointment on wed 4th march 15 so next week.
i get palpitations everyday but about 10 days ago i got what they called ventricle fibrillation. i had this once before about 5 years ago. but this time it's left me with an uncomfortable feelings (weird aches and pains in the heart area) and a thumping heart beat. i have called hare field hospital and they say wait for my appointment. i am wondering if i should go private and get another echo cardiogram (ultra sound one) just to make sure it's not got something bad wrong.
also i am wondering to have the synthetic valve or the bovine valve and cannot make up my mind , i know the bovine one will only last 8 years or so but i do not want to take warfarin forever it sounds like it's not a nice drug to me. any thoughts? my surgeon Dr XXXXXXX says he'd go for the bovine one because in 10 to 15 years it may well be better surgery available and also there is a 1 or two percent of having problems with warfarin (bleeding out in an accident etc)..
also i am not sure what to check when i am looking at surgeons and what to look out for eg survival rates are not all you should be looking at right. also do i need to ask anything about the actual valve they will be using? they say it will be state of the art and the latest technology and cost around 5000 pounds. i have a choice between dr XXXXXXX or dr XXXXXXX pattell. and also i the choice between hare field and the royal Brompton, they are part of the same trust i think it is. and not sure what to look for but ive been told
also i am fit and healthy apart from this but not sure what's best for an operation , to be ultra-fit, lose a bit of weight, gain a bit of weight, I am taking it easy at the moment since the incident ten days ago.
i would be grateful for your answers.
i would be grateful for a cardiologist based in the UK answer these question . and i would not mind paying for someone to do some research on the above doctors and hospitals. and also let me know what questions to ask to make sure they do the best they can :)
thank you.
XXXX.
tissue heart valve is advisable
Detailed Answer:
Hello Greetings
I had gone through your question diligently and I can understand your concern
Looking at your medical history this could be any of following possibilities
Aortic regurgitation itself can cause chest pain and palpitations due to inefficient coronary blood flow
Anxiety and excessive stress about your health
so in my opinion you should visit a GP for recording of blood pressure, ECG and blood tests to rule out for cardiac ischaemia ( heart attack) which a life threatening condition
you have already planned for surgery i would advise you to go ahead with this
you can ask your surgeon about comparative pros and cons of bovine and synthetic valve in details
you can ask for hypersensitivity or allergic reaction with both.
life long anticoagulation therapy is required for mechanical valves while a aspirin a day is sufficient for the same purpose with tissue valves
Yes, tissue valve has short life 10 to 15 years but you can think of other better alternative in future as medical science advancing I am sure,we will get better options.
I am sure you will be able to lead a very healthy life after the surgery
Hope i have answered your question and you will find my response will be helpful and informative
If you have any further clarification please don't hesitate to write back to us, I will be happy to help you
wishing you good health
