Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough
do sputum culture and sensitivity
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.
I share your concerns but let me tell you that chronic cough will take at least a week to subside. However you should have seen some progress by this time in your symptoms. If there is no improvement in your symptoms you need to go for sputum culture and sensitivity test. In my patients I have been following this. Sputum culture will identify the causative organisms behind chronic cough and sensitivity test will help us to know about the right antibiotics for that organism. So sputum culture and sensitivity helps us in giving more focused treatment. Please request your doctor for this.
If you are a chronic smoker it could be chronic bronchitis or asthma , which will require steroids, antihistamines , bronchodilators along with antibiotics. In case of bronchitis treatment will be much lolonger or even lifelong. Meanwhile control your smoking if any.
