Suggest Treatment For Chronic Insomnia And Arthritis

Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: I have been using a low dose (.37mg) of Xanax only at night for chronic insomnia and mild anxiety for a number of years and 1 Fioracet daily for arthritis (my stomach will not tolerate anti-inflamatories). Could that contribute to dysthymia? I am unable to tolerate anti-depressants because of severe nausea. I have tried a number of different ones in the past.

Brief Answer:
No these don't result in dysthymia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. You are on low dose of Xanax and one tablet of Fioracet daily. Fioracet is a combination drug consists of Acetaminophen, Butabital and Caffeine.

If we consider these molecules then all are safe to use and I don't think either of these is associated with side effects like dysthymia.

Thanks and Take care

Could the advancement of my symptoms be age related? I have suffered from period mild episodes of depression for many years but now seem to have developed the symptoms described in the dysthymia description.

Brief Answer:
Yes that may be related to age.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Yes that could be related to age. With age individuals develop slight disturbances in mood. But one can't make diagnosis of dysthymia by self. You have to visit a psychiatrist for making diagnosis of dysthymia.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
With age mood worsening is seen.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

With advancing age everyone experiences worsening of mood and some of depressive symptoms are seen. Tiredness, fatigue, low mood, irritability etc are seen commonly. But that doesn't mean that everyone become dysthymic or depressive.

If you have doubts that you have symptoms of dysthymia but if you are functioning properly and there is no impairment in social, personal functioning then no need to worry. I don't think you have depression or dysthymia in such situation.

Thanks and Take care
