Suggest Treatment For Chronic Itching On The Legs

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Sep 2017
Question: I have itching on my Legs for almost 6 months now. This itching seems to move upwards. Initially it was only just above ankle, then shin, then upto Calf and now full legs below Knees.

The skin becomes too dry and some times it bleeds forming small clots due to scratching when it itches. Thus leaving dark spot on the skin.

Kindly review attached pictures and advise.

Brief Answer:
Seems Lichen

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

From your description and photos, it seems lichen simplex chronicus.
It may also be some type of eczema.

In my practice I find the following very effective in treating the lesions:

- Avoid scratching as much as possible. This conditions gets worse on itching, so itching has to be avoided on any cost.
- Hydrocortisone 2% two times a day can be applied on lesions to control itching. It is a mild steroid. If it doesnot control itching then stronger steroid like betamethasone cream (eg diprovate plus cream) needs to be applied.
- Drink cleaner water from RO system. It will help boost your immunity
- Avoid unnecessary antibiotics.

Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
