Question: Hi ,

My mom is a CKD patient stage 5 and having dialysis .She had pneumonia and lung infection for which she was treated with antibiotics. She recovered but after 4 days of discharge had breathlessness and admitted again. Doctors have said she had pneumonia. Even after dialysis, she feels itchy and her body shivers when she gets up to walk with headache whenever she tries to move the body. Can you please advise what could be the cause of body shivering and itchiness.she has also been given Ticcocin 400 injection for 10 days during last treatment of pneumonia

Many Thanks

Brief Answer:
Infection are difficult to control in crf

Detailed Answer:
Hi
your mother is suffering from chronic renal failure and is on dialysis . these patients are prone to infections because their body immunity is very low and if the bacteria gains entry into the blood or the lungs or in urine . the bacteria causes shivering . it occurs in presence of bacteria in the blood compartment . In dialysis this bacteria get activated and they can cause shivering sometimes these infections are difficult to control. these infection can be caused by fungi or tuberclosis and in these antibiotics don't have any effect .show best way to managers chart the patient on broad spectrum antibiotics send for urine culture chest X Ray and if you suspect tuberculosis then you have to do a CT of the chest and after 7 to 10 days you should see whether the patient has improved or not. so sometimes this problem is difficult to tackle and take more time for control I think you should go by the suggestions of your treating doctor and let him take care of the patient

best wishes
