Suggest Treatment For Chronic Osteomyelitis In The Left Lower Leg
Question: My husband has chronic osteomylitis in his left lower leg. He now has a rash spreading behind his knees and going up his leg. I wonder if you have any advice for us. We are seeing an infectious disease doctor and he is talking surgery to remove the sequestrum but we don't know the extent of the damage until he has the MRI on Monday. I am just overwhelmed by this new rash that seems to be spreading and what to do about it.
Brief Answer:
Start Abtibiotics , get CBC+ Blood culture and surgery ASAP.
Detailed Answer:
Hi , I Am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
The spreading rash in your husband from lower leg upwards is probably due to spread of infection due to lymphatic/ venous channels.
In my opinion antibiotics should be re started at once ,CBC and Blood culture should be done, and I would like to operate ASAP.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
