Detailed Answer:
Hello! I read your question carefully and I am sorry about the situation you find yourself in.
Chronic pain is a common complication of spinal cord injury. There are several medications available which try to deal with neuropathic pain like anticonvulsants (gabapentin, pregabalin), antidepressants (amitriptyline, duloxetine). If the pain is related to spasticity drugs to ease spasticity like baclofen or tizanidine can also be used.
Pain control drugs in themselves do not affect your recovery but they ease the symptoms facilitating physical therapy and mobilization which are essential for your recovery. So coming to the second part of your question, yes physical therapy is an important part of the management, your neurosurgeon is correct.
Unfortunately though whether regarding subscriptions for medication or physical therapy, it is hard for me or any colleague on this site to intervene, given our virtual remote setting we are not allowed to give prescriptions. So collaboration from your physician is necessary eventually.
I remain at your disposal for further questions.
